The movement patterns include opening the hand, twisting the wrist etc. All these movement changes were linked to an on-screen limb, not a real body part. On a live webcam image of the patient, after calibration, the virtual limb was fixed to an exact point where the real limb was missing. After the fixing process, the virtual limb acts like the real limb of the patient and execute all the movements the person wanted to try. Over the 12 semi-monthly sessions, the patient was able to put the virtual limb into various positions like controlling a car in a racing game. The pain was reduced to half by the end of the 12 sessions and the interruptions to sleep were also cut down. Four patients reduced their dosage of medication and two of them by 81 percent. After six months, the therapy exhibited further improvements and proved to be beneficial. The results were encouraging and the study became highly successful.


All the selected patients were suffered from severe Phantom limb pain and were desperate by trying all other treatment methods. For them, through the AR therapy, the pain continuously decreased.
